Most photo studios follow the same formula: photographer directs, you pose, they click. But what if you could be on both sides of the camera?
At Mira Mira Studios in Alexandria, Sydney, we've designed a self-portrait experience where you control everything - the timing, the poses, the vibe. Here's what makes our photography studio different and what you need to know before booking.
How the Self Photo Studio Setup Works
Our studio is built around a simple but powerful concept: you shoot yourself using a mirrored setup and a wireless remote.
The Equipment:
High-resolution professional camera with studio lighting system and black or white backdrop options
Wireless remote control in your hand - you decide the best moment to click
Fully-curtained private studio room with changing area for complete privacy
Seasonal props (currently featuring paper flower props) and music system - bring your own playlist to set the vibe
Pre-Shoot Planning: Before your session, you can book a free 30-minute online creative brainstorming session where we discuss your vision, suggest styling options, and plan what will work best for your specific goals.
Premium Session Add-Ons: For half-day or full-day bookings, you'll receive:
Professional hair and makeup services
Stylist consultation
The Space: The studio is conveniently located in Alexandria, easily accessible from Green Square station. When you arrive, we welcome you, introduce you to the equipment, and share tips for taking great shots. Choose your music, get comfortable, and then the studio is yours.

Our Promise:
We care about you getting photos you're proud of. Before you start shooting, we'll share posing tips and tricks that help you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. If you're not happy with your photos, we'll refund you in full. We want you to love what you create here.
What You Can Shoot in a Self Photo Studio
This setup works for various purposes:
Self-Portraits & Personal Projects: Create authentic, impactful images in a space where you can be dramatic, silly, romantic, or just yourself. The private environment means you can explore all your angles without an audience. Come solo, with friends, family, or even your pet.
Model Portfolio Development: If you're building a portfolio, the solo format lets you experiment with different expressions and poses. You can take multiple variations of one look to find the perfect shot - something traditional photoshoots don't always allow time for.
Business Headshots: Professional headshots don't have to feel stiff or awkward. Our clients use the studio for individual headshots and team photos, where the self-portrait format actually works in your favour - you can relax between shots, adjust your expression until it feels natural, and capture that confident, approachable look that represents you professionally.
Content Creation: For social media, personal branding, or creative projects. The professional lighting and setup give you polished, royalty-free content you can use anywhere - no commercial exclusions.
The Self-Portrait Session Experience
Time-Based Pricing: Sessions are time-based with no hidden fees. You can take as many photos as you want during your booked time slot.
What You'll Receive:
Unlimited photos from your session
Auto-edited images delivered the same day
High-resolution files suitable for print or digital use
What Actually Happens: Most people spend the first 10-15 minutes getting comfortable with the equipment and space. This is completely normal.
The remote becomes second nature quickly. You're in complete control - clicking when you feel the moment, trying different poses, changing outfits, experimenting freely.
Mirror-Based Photo Studio: Why It Works
The mirrored studio design is central to the Mira Mira experience, and there are specific reasons why this approach works better than traditional setups.
Immediate Visual Feedback: You see yourself in real-time with no lag. This helps you adjust poses naturally and catch genuine expressions rather than manufactured ones.
More Natural Results: Working with a mirror feels intuitive. You're not performing for a lens or reacting to a photographer's directions.
Complete Privacy: No camera operator, no audience, no pressure. Just you and your reflection. You decide what gets captured, and with Auto editing, you control who sees the final images.
What to Bring to Your Session
You Can Bring:
Multiple outfit changes (there's changing room)
Your own props to personalise your shots
Friends or coworkers to share the session time
Pets (yes, we welcome pet photography!)
Group Sessions: You can bring people with you and share your time slot. Whether it's friends celebrating together or a team booking for business headshots, the studio accommodates group bookings.
Someone Behind the Scenes: If you want someone in the studio room with you (without being in photos) for support or to help with outfit changes, that's possible too.
Why the Self-Portrait Format Works
Traditional photography studios work well for many people. But the self-portrait format serves a different need - it's for people who want professional results without performance pressure.
You're not trying to nail the shot in three clicks while someone watches and directs. You have time. You have privacy. You have control.
Ready to Book Your Session?
Whether you're building a model portfolio, creating content, updating your business headshots, or simply want professional self-portraits with friends, family, or your pet, the studio setup puts you in control from start to finish.
No photographer. No audience. No pressure. Just you, a mirror, professional lighting, and a remote in your hand.
